Congratulations to Emily, Barbara Kivell Filippelli and Valley Pond Farm!!

Caspian: 9-year old Bay Gelding.

Caspian is a 16.2H 9-year old Warmblood gelding.  He has a very kind and gentle demeanor.  He has been competing in the 2'6", 2'9" and 3' Hunters.  He has a good size stride and is very adjustable. We believe he has the scope and step to move up to 3'3", possibly higher in time.  Caspian is ready for a new career as a child/adult or ammie/junior mount.  (Click here for pedigree). You can view video footage of Caspian by clicking on the following link:  Caspian Videos. USEF #5501092.

Show Mileage and Potential:  Caspian has competed at several "A" and "AA" venues in the Northeast to include Garden State, HITS Saugerties, Old Salem Farm, Monmouth at the Team, etc. His individual accomplishments include a sixth place HOTY Zone 2 award in the 2'6" USHJA hunters, a championship at Monmouth at the Team in the 2'6" USHJA hunters as well as numerous ribbons at HITS Saugerties, Old Salem Farm, Monmouth at the Team, and other venues in the 2'6", 2'9" and 3' hunters.

Under Saddle: Caspian is well broke with gaits that are steady, comfortable to sit, and he has a competitive jump that is easy to stay with over fences. He is handy, responsive, has great lead changes, knows the counter canter, has great transitions, yet is easy enough for a novice to flat. Under saddle he is honest, kind, forgiving, willing, consistent and dependable. He is a little bit of a leg ride but he has his own motor and is very straight-forward.  Caspian is soft in the bridle, easy to frame, easy to rate, responsive and steady.

Trainability:  Caspian aims to please and do right by his rider.  He is smart and he has a good work ethic.

Preferred Rider:  Caspian performs well for a rider that keeps a supportive leg to the fences and does not drop him.  We believe an ideal situation for Caspian would be to partner with a rider who is competing in the 2'6" hunters or equitation and may have aspirations for 3' or perhaps a bit higher after building a bond with his/her mount.

On the Ground:  Caspian has exceptional ground manners.  He enjoys being groomed and bathed and he adores attention and peppermints. This gentle, charming, young man is very agreeable and tolerant.  He has no vices and is a pleasure to have in the barn.  Caspian has a great brain and is very easy on the ground.  He clips, loads, bathes, ships, stand politely on the cross ties, and goes on the treadmill.  Caspian is very well mannered with a content personality.

Temperament:  Caspian is a quiet, sweet, affectionate, gentle young man.  He is an easy-going, laid-back horse that trailers, clips and ties with ease. He adores apples, carrots and peppermints.

At the Show:  Caspian does best with a lunge before heading to the show ring. His program typically entails using some lower fence height classes as a warm-up for the division.

Program: Caspian is currently being ridden about 5 times a week and schools over fences once or twice a week depending on his show schedule. He generally appreciates a lunge before he is ridden to allow him to stretch -- just 5-10 minutes to allow him to stretch his neck to the ground and flick his toes a bit. When he is flatted at home his program generally includes cantering over rails and flower boxes.  He is accustomed to being hacked by a child rider at home. Caspian is a relatively easy keeper.  Like all our horses, he receives turnout as weather permits.  He is accustomed to being turned out in either a sand sacrific paddock or a half-acre grass paddock.  He enjoys light hacks in large grass fields.
